Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Former A’Ibom PDP Chairman’s Widow and Sister-in-Law

A devastating fire engulfed the residence of the late chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, Udo Ekpenyong, located in Ukanafun Local Government Area. The incident, occurring on the eve of Christmas, resulted in the tragic loss of lives, including the late PDP chairman’s wife, Elizabeth, and her sister, Ofonime Frank.

The cause of the inferno was not explicitly mentioned in the statement issued by Udeme Idiong, the Secretary of the Transition Committee of the local government. The Chairman of the Transition Committee, Godwin Ekpe, declared a seven-day mourning period to honor the departed, seeking the state government’s approval to withdraw all Ukanafun contingent from the ongoing Christmas Carol activity scheduled for December 28, 2023.

The statement expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, and prayers were offered for the repose of the departed souls.
