Two Jailed for Internet Fraud in Kaduna

A Nigerian court has sentenced two men to prison for internet fraud, with Audu Ishida and Elisha Smith receiving six-year sentences in Kaduna. Justice Hauwa’u Bubari of the Federal High Court convicted them based on charges of impersonation, retention of proceeds of fraud, and money laundering. The Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted the case.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. Prosecutor M.E. Eimonye urged the court to convict and impose sentences based on their admissions.

Following the defense’s plea, the judge sentenced Smith to four years in prison or a fine of N500,000. Ishida received a two-year sentence or a fine of N400,000.

In addition to their prison terms, the court ordered the forfeiture of their mobile devices, a Samsung Galaxy S10e and an Oppo F1s. The EFCC reported that both individuals were arrested in Jos, Plateau State, following intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.
