By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Global Peace Humanitarian Award in collaboration with Excellence One UK confered the presigious Global Humanitarian Peace Award on the th
Executive Secretary of Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, Dr. Rev Yakubu Pam.

This was contained in press release signed by Mr. Celestine Toruka, Deputy Director,/Head Media and Public Relations, made available to Daybreak today.

The NCPC boss thanked the organizers for considering him worthy and deserving of the prestigious award and described the theme of the award which is, ” Peace Building and Sustainability in the Risk in the 21st Century” as apt and meaningful.

He noted that the Award was timely as it coincided with the commemoration of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and remembrance of victims of warfare.

Rev. Pam urged Nigerians
occupying positions of influence in government and the private sector to ensure that policies that would protect women should be initiated to encourage women and give them the sense of belonging they deserve.

He further called on government to make laws that protect women because they the worst hit when it comes to violence, especially domestic violence, adding that they are home builders and the foundation in which the nation is built.

Also, Rev Pam decried the situation where women are denied their family legitimate inheritance because of gender, and condemned such barbaric and inhuman culture, stating that they should be jettisoned to give women their rightful place in our customs and culture.

The NCPC helmsman also stated that ” without peace there will be no meaningful development anywhere in the world, emphasizing that peace does not necessarily mean the absence of war”.

Rev Pam enumerated some of the peace interventions he embarked on even as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, some of which helped to de-escalate crisis in some troubled spots in Nigeria.

He reiterated that” peace building is work in progress, as it touches humanity and has no finishing line”.

The National Country Director of the Global Peace Humanitarian Award, Ambassador Ozuem Esiri who presented the award to the NCPC boss, said the gesture was in recognition his efforts in promoting peace both local and internationally.

Esiri commended the NCPC boss for his bold initiative to embark on the maiden Christian Pilgrimage to the kingdom of Jordan this year despite all odds.

He stressed that the effort was not a mean achievement as it helped to promote inter-faith harmony, which should be encouraged by all peace-loving people.

The occasion was graced by eminent peace builders in Nigeria and outside the country.
