Unijos suspends social activities outside the institution

Authorities of the University of Jos has suspended social activities including parties , hiking, picnics and any other social activities outside the institution.

Our correspondent gathered that a student a 100-level student of Biology Education at the University of Jos got drowned at the weekend while swimming during a hike trip at the Lamingo Dam .

A statement signed by Mrs Anna Yilsu on behalf of the Dean Directorate of student affairs, reads that the directors of socials and directors of sports, students union Government Executives, faculties and departments executives are all directed to strictly adhere to the instruction.

The statement further reads that ” All staff advisers are by this notice directed to monitor closely the activities of students under their care for ensure full compliance of the directive.

The institution also warned that any violation of the directive will be severely sanctioned.

Tragedy had occurred on Saturday, May 4, 2024 after a 100-level student of Biology Education only identified as Elvis at the University of Jos drowned at the Lamingo dam, Jos.

It was gathered that the Biology Education Students Association, BESA, in the school organized a hike for its members around the Lamingo area led some of the students to plunge into the water after which he went missing and his corpse found two days later.
