WBC Champion Bash Ali Vows His Historic Boxing Project Will Hold in Nigeria Despite Setbacks

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

World Boxing Champion (WBC) Bashiru Aliyu, popularly known as Bash Ali, has reaffirmed his determination to host his long-awaited WBC Boxing Project in Nigeria, insisting that no amount of opposition or alleged corruption will stop the event from taking place.

Bash Ali made this declaration in a statement issued on Friday evening, expressing optimism following the intervention of the House of Representative in Abuja. The boxing legend said lawmakers had officially taken up the matter, describing it as a positive step toward realizing his historic sports initiative.

According to the statement, “On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is now personally handling the injustice caused by the corrupt criminals in this government.”

He continued, “Like I have always said, whether the criminals in government like it or not, this historic fight will hold in our great country, Nigeria. More details are loading.”

Bash Ali, a former world cruiserweight champion, has been advocating for the WBC Boxing Project, which he describes as a landmark event that would not only promote Nigerian boxing globally but also be the first world title fight ever hosted in Africa.

The boxer has, however, faced years of setbacks and bureaucratic obstacles, which he blames on corruption and lack of political will among government officials. Despite the challenges, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to ensure the project becomes a reality.

Bash Ali, known for his outspoken and resilient nature, said the proposed event would place Nigeria at the center of global sports attention, attract investment, and inspire a new generation of athletes.

His renewed confidence comes amid what he called “encouraging signs” from the National Assembly’s involvement, which he believes could finally break the impasse that has stalled the initiative for years.

While the boxer did not provide a specific date for the event, he assured fans and supporters that preparations are ongoing and that the WBC Boxing Project will be held in Nigeria as planned.

Observers say if realized, the project could mark a turning point for professional boxing in Africa, given Bash Ali’s record and the symbolic significance of hosting a world-class boxing championship on the continent.
