Wife of Chief Imam murdered in bloody attack in Kogi

Unknown Armed men on Thursday night murdered Mrs. Yemisi Baderu, the wife of the Chief Imam of Ayere community in ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

An eyewitness account said the woman was murdered at her house in the presence of her husband and children on Thursday night when the assailants allegedly attacked her with a cutlass.

The bloody incident which was described as the first of its kind in the sleepy community, was said to have disconcerted residents.

The traditional ruler of the town and the Alayere of Ayere Oba JO Olubo, who expressed shock and sadness over the incident, pleaded with the police not to release those held over the crime on bail until thorough investigation and justice prevail.

The Royal Father charged the police and other law enforcement agencies to beam their searchlight on the community and rid it of criminal elements.

Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant on Security, in charge of Ijumu Local Government, Taufiq Isa, who visited the community after the incident condemned the attack, describing it as heartless, brutal and inhuman.

The SSA on security who described the incident as the first of its kind in history of the Local Government, assured the residents of the government’s commitment to restore peace and order in the area.

He commiserated with the Chief Imam and the traditional ruler of the community over the loss of their beloved wife and prayed for the repose of her soul.

Meanwhile,in order to check mate and bring other perpetrators to book, the Chief Security Officer of the local government, Taufiq Isa has imposed a 7.00pm – 7.00am curfew in the community.

The Police spokesman, William Aya who confirmed the incident said the Command has arrested three suspects connected with the attack and that an investigation has begun.
