Wike Frowns at Performance of Abuja Waste Management Contractors

The FCT Minister Barr. Nysome Wike has frowned at the poor performance of the on waste management contractors handling cleaning of refuse in Abuja.

Wike said this on Tuesday in Abuja when he meet with waste management contractors.

According to him, ” I’ve gone round personally, I’m not well satisfied with the performance of the contractors involved in waste disposal. So, I have to give them another opportunity to interact with them today. So, they will know the seriousness we take that waste disposal.”

The FCT minister who noted that waste disposal is a very difficult aspect in city management, said that it is better to solve the problem of refuse disposal and not to give in to excuses or complaints.

“So, I will meet with them today and let them know that it’s a major, major, major, major project to us. Therefore, it’s essential that people should know that.”

Speaking with a body of FCT waste contractors, the minister appealed to them to take waste management services in the serious.

The minister said that be personally moves around Asokoro to see the environment identify the challenges and fixed, and urged contractors to also do same to address the challenges of refuse in the city.

He note that although the implementation can be tough, contractors need to understand how the environment operates.

However, the minister urges the authorities to engage competent contractors to handle refuse management in the territory.

” We must ensure that government authorities bring the right contractors to do their jobs. For example, when I visited Utako, I saw some issues with compliance that were not being addressed,” he added.
