Woman Explains Why She Tore Her Husband’s Passport at Lagos Airport

By Milcah Tanimu

– Mrs. Igiebor, who recently made headlines for tearing her husband’s passport at Lagos Airport, has finally shared her side of the story.

In a video posted on Monday, Igiebor, a content creator known for her family-focused content on TikTok, addressed the incident. She explained that the act was the culmination of long-standing family issues that began before their return to Nigeria from Europe.

“This situation has been ongoing for a long time,” Igiebor said in the video. “I’m not just acting out of nowhere; there are deep-seated reasons behind what I did. I chose to do this in Nigeria because I didn’t want him to face additional stress abroad. Many at the airport witnessed my actions, but the issues are deeply personal and persistent.”

Igiebor revealed that the strife in their marriage had been exacerbated by her husband’s neglect, particularly in favor of his family. She added that despite the gift of an iPhone from her husband intended to pacify her, the pain had not subsided.

“I did this so that my husband would understand the depth of my suffering,” she continued. “He’s always been closer to his family than to me, and I feel that my own suffering is being ignored. I’m ready to face any consequences for my actions.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an investigation into the incident. NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, confirmed that the destruction of a Nigerian Standard Passport could violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015, which forbids the willful destruction of travel documents.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service is committed to enforcing the Immigration Act to ensure national security and protect the integrity of our legal and diplomatic instruments,” Udo stated in a release.

The incident, which was captured on video and went viral, has drawn significant public attention. Igiebor’s explanation comes amidst calls for accountability and legal action. The NIS investigation will determine the next steps in addressing the passport destruction and any potential penalties.
