Dele Alli left frustrated by Jose Mourinho’s silence

Dele Alli is in the dark over his demotion to bit-part player under Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

It is understood Alli and Mourinho are still to discuss the reasons behind the Spurs boss’ decision to sideline his midfielder since the start of the season.

Likewise, questions over why he was not allowed to leave on loan during the summer are still unanswered.

Having played a crucial role during the Portuguese boss’ opening months in charge, Alli has fallen rapidly down the pecking order.

The 24 year-old has played just 66 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, starting in just one of Tottenham’s seven top-flight fixtures against Everton in which he was substituted at half-time.

Mourinho has been using the Europa League to provide Alli with some first-team minutes. But even during last week’s loss against Royal Antwerp, the Spurs star was replaced at half-time.

Having blocked any move away during the previous window, it seems logical for Spurs to sanction a loan move for Alli during the forthcoming winter window.

Paris Saint Germain failed with three loan offers during the summer and would certainly be interested again in January if he was made available.

There has been no fall-out between manager and player but it appears clear that Alli is no longer a key part of Mourinho’s long-term plans.

Mourinho has led Tottenham through an impressive start to the season and is unlikely to change his mind on Alli any time soon.

Having been one of England’s best performers at the World Cup in 2018, Alli has lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Nonetheless, Alli is not yet giving up hope of regaining his place in time for next summer’s European Championships.

The only way that will be possible is if Alli is playing regularly, a clear indication that a January loan is emerging as a possibility.
