Wigwe University, founded by the late CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, is set to commence operations in August 2024. Located in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the university will offer diverse programs across four major colleges: the College of Management and Social Sciences, the College of Arts, the College of Science and Computing, and the College of Engineering.

In January 2024, the university appointed Prof. Miles Davis from the United States as its pioneer Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Davis holds a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Sciences from The George Washington University, USA.

The Board of Trustees includes notable figures such as Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Founding Partner of Kenna Partners, Dr. Ajoritsedere Awosika, and Mrs. Mosunmola Belo-Olusoga.

The university’s website highlights that its programs meet international standards, featuring collaboration with key global partners. “Our approach connects us with world-leading curricula, joint research, and international exchanges and internship programs,” the site states. Wigwe University aims to shape Africa’s future as a global education leader, blending local and international faculty to inspire a new generation of leaders.

The College of Arts is the most affordable, with total fees of N9,600,000. The College of Engineering, College of Management and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Computing each have a total fee of ₦11,998,800. These fees cover tuition, books, laboratory supplies, personal protective equipment, project lab resources, e-learning resources, and health insurance, among others.

Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizzy tragically died in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024. On the university’s website, Wigwe’s message reads, “I cannot change the world overnight. But if I can empower even one youth today, tomorrow, they could join me in empowering others. With time, we could change the world.”
