10 persons test positive for COVID-19 at Lagos House

The Lagos State Government says 10 persons “associated” with the State House in Marina, have tested positive for coronavirus.

State Health Commissioner, Prof Akin Abayomi, made this disclosure on Thursday afternoon via Twitter.

He, however, did not give any detail about the identity of the infected persons but stressed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Joke Sanwo-Olu tested negative for the virus.

He said, “I am glad to announce that COVID-19 Incident Commander Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the First Lady, Joke Sanwoolu have consistently tested negative for COVID-19 following three consecutive tests conducted on them recently.

“However, 10 persons associated with Lagos State House in Marina have tested positive to COVID-19.”

The government has consistently held briefings on COVID-19 management in Lagos at the State House in Marina.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as of the time of filing this report, 1,308 coronavirus infections with 358 recoveries and 30 fatalities have been reported so far in the state.

Lagos entered a new phase on Monday, May 4, with the end of the five-week-old lockdown ordered by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as part of measures to curb the spread of the novel virus in the nation’s economic capital.

“I, therefore, implore you all to continue to embrace the #MaskUpLagos initiative and observe all precautionary measures such as physical distancing, hand washing, and other personal hygiene. All directives on easing lockdown in Lagos State remain in force. It is our collective responsibility to do all we can to stop the spread of COVID-19,” the commissioner added.
