A grassroots political group, the Plateau Central Movement for Positive Change, has endorsed Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman as its preferred candidate for the Plateau Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement was announced on Monday in Jos, Plateau State, following consultations across the senatorial zone.

The group, which operates across Bokkos, Mangu, Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam local government areas, said the decision was reached after wide-ranging engagements with key stakeholders. These included youths, women’s groups, traditional rulers, community elders, and political associates within the zone.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator and Leader, Pansak Haruna, the Movement said it identified Chief Usman as a candidate capable of providing effective and people-focused representation at the National Assembly. The group emphasized the need for competent, selfless, and visionary leadership for the Plateau Central Senatorial seat.“

After careful deliberation, the Movement has identified Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman as the embodiment of the positive change Plateau Central urgently needs,” the statement said. It described the endorsement as a strategic decision aimed at securing stronger representation for the zone in the Senate.Chief Usman currently serves as the Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. According to the group, his performance in office influenced its decision to support his senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement highlighted several achievements attributed to his tenure, including the reduction of local government debts and improvements in workers’ welfare. It also cited the delivery of infrastructure projects such as roads, classrooms, and community facilities across various parts of the state.

The Movement further described Chief Usman as a leader with humility, compassion, and a strong commitment to unity and human capital development. It said these qualities position him to effectively advocate for the interests of Plateau Central at the federal level. According to the group, Chief Usman is expected to prioritize key areas such as education, healthcare, security, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment if elected to represent the Plateau Central Senatorial seat.“ This endorsement is a call to all well-meaning citizens of our zone to rally behind a proven leader who prioritizes people over politics,” the statement noted. It added that the group believes his leadership would contribute to sustainable development and inclusive progress.

The Movement also urged residents of the Plateau Central Senatorial Zone to support the endorsement regardless of political affiliation, ethnic background, or religious belief. It described the 2027 elections as an opportunity to collectively work towards a more prosperous future for the zone.“ Positive change is not just a slogan; it is our collective destiny,” the statement concluded, calling for unity and broad-based support as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
