2027: Ex-PDP Candidate Muhammed Ibrahim Explains Defection to SDP

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Nasarawa State, Muhammed Ibrahim, has said his decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was driven by dissatisfaction with internal party support and structure. Speaking in Lafia, Ibrahim, who contested the Nasarawa Eggon East State Assembly seat in 2023, said he left the PDP after what he described as a lack of backing during and after the election.

He said official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed he polled 10,580 votes, finishing behind All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Jacob Ajegana Kudu, who secured 11,114 votes. “I pursued the case at the tribunal and up to the Appeal Court because I believed in my position, but I accepted the court’s decision,” Ibrahim said.

He, however, expressed concern that he did not receive the level of support he expected from the party during the legal process. On his move to the SDP, Ibrahim cited the presence of established political figures as a key factor, mentioning former Minister of Information Labaran Maku among those influencing his decision. He said the party’s structure and leadership in Nasarawa State gave him confidence in its internal processes and future prospects.

Ibrahim also confirmed plans to contest again for the Nasarawa Eggon East seat under the SDP platform in the next election cycle. He called on his supporters to join him, pledging commitment to the party’s growth and development.
