APC Chieftain Alleges Political Motive Behind Plateau Killings

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Saleh Zazzaga, has alleged that recent killings in Plateau State are politically motivated, linking the violence to the 2027 general elections. Zazzaga’s comments follow reports that more than 20 people were killed in an attack on communities in Jos North Local Government Area during Palm Sunday, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists, he claimed that the violence was aimed at undermining support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle and discrediting Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

Zazzaga also suggested that political tensions in the North-Central region could be contributing to insecurity in both Plateau and neighbouring states, including Benue. His claims have not been independently verified.

The APC chieftain called on security agencies to intensify efforts to address the violence and urged community and religious leaders to promote peace and avoid statements that could escalate tensions. He also commended the President’s recent visit to Jos, describing it as a demonstration of concern for affected communities. Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
