The Federal Government has performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Ecumenical Airport Chapel and Pilgrims Centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, described the project as a historic and spiritually significant initiative that reflects the intersection of faith, national development, and human well-being. He noted that the event goes beyond a ceremonial function, symbolizing a commitment to integrating spiritual reflection into the fabric of modern infrastructure.
According to a press release by the Head, Media and Publicity, Chris Egwuegbulam, the SGF said that the Ecumenical Airport Chapel and Pilgrims Centre will serve as a sanctuary of hope, peace, and spiritual renewal for travelers, pilgrims, and the Christian faithfuls. He emphasized that the facility would provide a sacred space for individuals to pause, reflect, and reconnect with God amidst the demands and uncertainties of travel.
He highlighted the timeliness of the project describing the Centre as a consecrated haven open to all, to uplift hearts, ease burdens, and strengthen faith. The SGF also noted that the development aligns with the Federal Government’s broader commitment to enhancing passenger experience and upgrading infrastructure within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
He commended the visionaries, promoters, and partners behind the initiative for their foresight and dedication, urging continued collaboration to ensure the successful completion of the project and expressed optimism that the Centre, upon completion, would serve generations to come—offering comfort to the troubled, strength to the weary, and inspiration to all who pass through its doors.
