The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement has declared that the South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will take the lead in efforts to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the group’s South-West Coordinator, Abass Olaniyi, the movement said the PDP in the region is determined to liberate Nigeria from the grip of what it described as “the interests of a privileged few.”
According to the group, the South-West PDP is actively mobilising a credible, united, and principled political force to achieve this objective.
“The South-West PDP has shown clarity, courage, and commitment to the ideals of true opposition,” the statement said.
“This region will lead the charge to rescue Nigeria’s democracy and defeat President Tinubu in 2027, against the wishes and personal interests of a select few.”
The group also condemned what it described as attempts by certain individuals to hijack the PDP for selfish motives, asserting that such efforts have failed.
“The tide is now turning in favour of a value-driven political rebirth,” it said.
“Those attempting to exploit the party’s internal challenges for personal gain have lost their footing. Nigerians are yearning for something new — something honest. The PDP must rise to become that credible alternative.”
The movement further stressed the need for the PDP to return to its founding ideals by prioritising leadership with integrity and ideological clarity.
“To defeat Tinubu in 2027, the PDP must offer what the APC lacks — integrity and principle,” the statement concluded.
“As the countdown to 2027 begins, the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement is working across the South-West and beyond to ensure that the PDP emerges as a credible force capable of rescuing Nigeria’s democracy.”
