By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government, in partnership with UNICEF, has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a polio-free status by the end of 2025. This pledge was made during a media roundtable where officials announced the commencement of the June round of the Outbreak Response (OBR 2) immunization campaign across the state.

The Key Highlights of the Campaign

was over 2,709 vaccination teams have been deployed across the 244 wards of the state including 2,057 house-to-house teams to reach children in their homes.

Speaking at the brief ceremony the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, emphasized the importance of community involvement, particularly urging fathers to allow their children to be vaccinated at their doorsteps.

Dr. Faruk stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the vaccination process, stating that “there’s no justification for any vaccinator to enter homes without permission” and that all children should be vaccinated in full view.

The state government has partnered with UNICEF and other organizations to support the immunization campaign, with the Sultan and other traditional leaders playing a key role in promoting the initiative.
