Jacob Onu, the National Coordinator of the marathon, shared this news at a press conference in Abuja on Friday. He emphasized that the event symbolizes the fight against corruption and substance abuse among athletes. “The fight against corruption is ongoing; it requires perseverance and endurance,” he stated.
He added, “This initiative reflects that, as one cannot start and finish a marathon without perseverance.”

Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano, the President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), said the organization will fully participate in the marathon. “As OSMA president, I will ensure the African military takes part. We will also promote the race at the upcoming African Military Games in Abuja,” he noted.
Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), called on stakeholders to support the marathon. He was represented by Abdul Ibrahim, President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation. Ibrahim said such events help discover new talents.
The 21.25 km half marathon will start at Eagles Square at 7 am. It will pass through the National Stadium and conclude at the Unity Fountain. Top government officials and members of the National Assembly Anti-Corruption Committee are expected to flag off the event.
