37 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abuja to Face Legal Proceedings

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that 37 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in various areas of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, will be brought before the court following the completion of investigations.

In a statement released on the EFCC’s official Facebook page, it was revealed that the suspects were apprehended during raids conducted in the Jahi, Dawaki, and Gwarimpa districts of Abuja. Among the items seized from the suspects were six vehicles, 20 laptops, 66 mobile phones, six international passports, and an Apple wristwatch.

The statement emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to combatting cybercrime and affirmed that the suspects will face legal consequences once the investigation process concludes.

In a related development, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC also apprehended 48 suspected internet fraudsters and a herbalist in Lokoja, Kogi State, on charges related to conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretenses. Similarly, 48 students of Kwara State University were arrested earlier for their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities.

The EFCC reiterated its resolve to prosecute those involved in fraudulent activities, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime effectively.
