Tinubu Urges Traditional Rulers to Strengthen Security, Unity at Falae Book Launch

By Wilfred Francis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on traditional rulers to play a more active role in addressing insecurity and promoting unity across Nigeria. The president made the appeal in Lagos at the launch of the autobiography of Samuel Oluyemisi Olu Falae. He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, according to a statement by SGF spokesperson Yomi Odunuga.

Tinubu said traditional institutions must go beyond ceremonial roles and act as stabilising forces within their communities. He urged monarchs to promote dialogue, discourage violence and support grassroots peacebuilding efforts.

“Peace and security are not solely the responsibility of government; they are collective duties,” he said. The event drew political leaders, diplomats and traditional rulers. Tinubu described it as an opportunity to reflect on leadership and national values, praising Falae’s contributions to public service.

He noted Falae’s roles in government, including as finance minister and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as well as his current position as a traditional ruler in Ondo State. The president said his administration would continue to collaborate with traditional institutions to enhance security, social cohesion and development at the grassroots.
