2027: Ex-Kaduna Speaker Endorses Tinubu, Gov Sani, Declares for Senate

…Says Tinubu funded Northern governors more than predecessors
By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, , has declared his intention to contest the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, while endorsing President and Governor for re-election.

Zailani made the declaration on Saturday at Rigachikun Primary School in , stating that his decision followed widespread calls from constituents, which he described as a divine summons to serve.

He said his ambition was driven by a sense of responsibility to represent and advance the interests of Kaduna Central, rather than personal gain.

The former Speaker anchored his aspiration on the leadership of President Tinubu, whom he described as his political mentor and father, urging supporters to adopt what he termed a “joint ticket” by backing his senatorial bid alongside the re-election of the President and Governor Sani in 2027.

Zailani claimed that the Tinubu administration has increased funding to northern states more than any previous government, attributing the development to the removal of fuel subsidy and the resulting rise in federal allocations to states.

According to him, the increased revenues are sufficient for governors to meet key obligations, including payment of salaries, execution of projects and addressing security challenges.

He, however, challenged governors in the North to justify the funds by delivering tangible development outcomes, stressing that responsibility now lies with state governments.

Zailani also cautioned against mismanagement of public funds, urging leaders to act in the interest of citizens.

On agriculture, he called on the Federal Government to intervene in the rising cost of fertiliser, proposing a subsidy that would reduce the price to about N15,000 per bag to boost farming and food production.

He noted that farmers faced significant challenges during the last planting season due to the high cost of inputs.

Reaffirming his political stance, Zailani dismissed speculation about any preferred candidate, expressing confidence that both the President and the governor would support his senatorial ambition.

The declaration was followed by a roadshow from Rigachikun to Stadium Roundabout to mobilise support for his candidacy.
