Bayelsa United Feeders have been crowned champions of Yenagoa Local Government Area in the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup, after defeating Brazil FC in a dramatic final at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.The match ended 2-2 in regulation time before Bayelsa United Feeders secured a 5-4 victory on penalties, marking their first LGA title after three previous attempts.
Jackson Ofoin opened the scoring in the 11th minute, while Nathaniel Ojigbare extended the lead in the 25th minute. Brazil FC responded in the second half, with Godswill Kutu reducing the deficit in the 59th minute and Peremobowei Godspower equalising shortly after to force a shootout.
The champions received a ₦1,000,000 prize, while Brazil FC earned ₦500,000 as runners-up.Speaking after the match, Yenagoa City Mayor Bulodiseye Ndiwari said the tournament continues to provide opportunities for youth engagement and talent discovery. He also commended the state government and the organising committee for their support.
Tournament Director General Ono Akpe described the LGA finals as competitive and announced that the women’s competition will run alongside the Round of 32. He also confirmed a new rule allowing qualified teams to register five additional players for the knockout stage. With all LGA finals concluded, the competition now progresses to the Round of 32 across Bayelsa State.
