4 Causes of skin wrinkles

Wondering why you skin is beginning to get wrinkles? Read on to find out why.

Here are 4 causes of skin wrinkles:

1. Age
As you grow, the skin stops producing natural oils which initially provided nourishment for the skin. The fatty layer in the bottom part of the skin (dermis) diminishes leading to the formation of more pronounced wrinkles.

2. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays
UV rays break collagen and elastin fibres in the skin which form connective tissue that supports the skin elasticity. Interference of this tissue leads to wrinkling of the skin.
People who are involved in outdoor sports and activities are more likely to develop wrinkles earlier.

3. Poor nutrition
A poor diet involving much-processed food affects your skin negatively. Foods such as oily fish, fresh fruits and vegetables are required to maintain a supple skin since it contains the required nutrients.

4. Smoking
Every drag you take pulls away the purse-string muscles causing premature wrinkles in your face. The addictive substance in cigarettes, nicotine, causes the narrowing of blood vessels in the upper layer of the skin. This leads to the formation of wrinkles since the skin is unable to get sufficient nutrients and oxygen.
