4 men in court for alleged secret cult involvement in Ogun

Sango-Ota (Ogun), March 19, 2020 The police on Thursday arraigned four men in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.
The defendands, Ayodele Michael, 32, Yusuf Owolabi, 26, Adeyanju Daniel, 31, and Agbaje Mathew, 29, whose addresses were not provided, are each facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.
The prosecutor, Insp. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that Michael, Owolabi, Daniel, Mathew and others still at large, committed the offences on Feb. 13, at about 1.30 p.m. at Africa Primary School, Igboro Ijoko, in Ota.
Mustapha said that the defendants and their accomplices, conspired to belong to a secret cult called, “Alora Confraternity”.
He alleged that they were caught by a vigilante group taking oath of allegiance to the secret cult and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 88 (1) (a) and 516, of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted each of the defendants N800, 000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.
The case was adjourned until  March 25 for commencement of trial.
