40-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide in Jigawa

A 40-year-old man, Jibrin Adamu, has taken his own life by hanging in Jigawar Maroka village, located in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, in a statement issued on Friday in Dutse. According to Shiisu, Adamu, who had been struggling with mental health issues, committed the act on Thursday evening.

“On September 19, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, a report was received at the Command headquarters that Jibrin Adamu, 40, from Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa LGA, had hanged himself in a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School, Gurdiba,” Shiisu said.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa and his team promptly arrived at the scene, where they discovered Adamu’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling of the classroom. The body was later taken to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. His remains have since been released to his family for burial.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adamu had a history of mental illness and would occasionally disappear for days before returning home. Prior to the incident, he had left home to fetch water near the location where he was found.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Ahmadu Abdullahi, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
