FG to Collaborate with AGFAN to Boost Economic Development

The Federal Government has reiterated its readiness to collaborate with the and other agricultural groups to enhance productivity, create jobs, and drive sustainable economic growth across the country.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), , made this known in while receiving a delegation from AGFAN led by its President, .

Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, , highlighted the strategic importance of groundnut production to Nigeria’s economic development. He noted that groundnut remains not only a staple food but also a key driver of economic growth.

He recalled the historical significance of the famous groundnut pyramids in Northern Nigeria, which contributed significantly to the nation’s GDP in the 1940s and 1950s and supported early economic development efforts.

In a statement issued by , the SGF commended the association for supporting the administration of and urged it to mobilise its members across the 36 states in support of the President’s re-election bid in 2027.

He assured of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting AGFAN and the agricultural sector to boost food security and economic development.

Speaking earlier, Isa assured the government of the association’s readiness to operate within a sustainable framework, stating that any support received in the form of inputs or equipment would translate into increased productivity and economic returns.

He emphasised the importance of mechanisation in achieving large-scale agricultural production and improving farmers’ access to modern tools, noting that it would position Nigeria competitively in global markets.

Isa also reaffirmed the association’s support for the (APC) and the Tinubu administration, pledging to mobilise its nationwide membership base towards ensuring electoral success in the 2027 general elections.
