5 Foods to Avoid While Hungover

By Milcah Tanimu

When you’re dealing with a hangover, your food choices play a crucial role in your recovery. Here are five types of foods you should avoid:

1. Greasy, Heavy Foods:
Avoid greasy and heavy foods, such as bacon and eggs, as they can worsen nausea and upset stomach. Opt for lighter options that won’t contribute to feelings of discomfort.

2. Caffeinated Beverages:
Steer clear of coffee and other caffeinated beverages. Caffeine is a diuretic, increasing urine production and leading to dehydration, which is counterproductive when your body is already trying to recover.

3. Spicy Foods:
Spicy foods can irritate an already sensitive stomach, contributing to indigestion and discomfort. It’s best to avoid them during a hangover.

4. Sugary Treats:
While sugary foods may offer a quick energy boost, they can lead to a subsequent blood sugar crash, leaving you feeling more fatigued and lethargic. Opt for healthier, balanced snacks instead.

5. Alcohol:
Consuming more alcohol while hungover is a bad idea. It further dehydrates your body and intensifies symptoms. Resist the temptation to go back to the culprit responsible for your hangover.

Choosing the right foods during a hangover can significantly impact your recovery. Opt for lighter, hydrating options and listen to your body’s needs to promote a quicker bounce back from the effects of alcohol consumption.
