President Tinubu Convenes First Security Meeting with Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu is presently engaged in a closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs at the State House in Abuja. Led by Chief of Defense Staff General Lucky Irabor, the meeting commenced on Thursday morning after President Tinubu’s arrival at the Villa at 10:53 am.

In attendance are Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, and Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.

This gathering signifies President Tinubu’s initial official interaction with the security chiefs since assuming office earlier this week. While the specific agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, it is anticipated that each security chief will provide briefings to update the President on the current state of national security.

In his inaugural address, President Tinubu emphasized that security would be of paramount importance during his administration. Recognizing that prosperity and justice cannot thrive amidst insecurity and violence, he pledged to undertake reforms in security doctrine and architecture. Furthermore, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to invest in security personnel, encompassing improved training, equipment, remuneration, and firepower.

Prior to this security meeting, President Tinubu also held discussions with other prominent figures. He had meetings with Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as Peng Qinghua, the Special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Additionally, President Tinubu engaged with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele, and the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mele Kyari, among others.
