Impersonator sentenced to three years in prison for posing as FBI agent

The imposer receives a three-year prison sentence for impersonating an FBI agent, as reported by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Darius Khobo, in a High Court in Kaduna, delivered the conviction. Eke had been using a Facebook account under the alias Kelvin James, posing as FBI agent John Smith. The EFCC shared the news on their official Twitter account, @officialEFCC.

As a result of an intelligence report, Solomon Eke was apprehended by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Kurudu Phase 5 in Abuja. The arrest took place alongside 24 other suspected internet fraudsters. The EFCC, acting on information regarding Eke’s alleged involvement in internet fraud, conducted the operation leading to the arrests.EFCC’s investigation uncovered that Solomon Eke, using the Facebook account name Kelvin James, impersonated an American Federal Bureau of Investigation agent named John Smith. The agency disclosed that Eke and others committed the offense of presenting himself as Kelvin James, a white man and Trading Manager, to unsuspecting victims on Facebook with the intention of carrying out a love scam. Eke pleaded guilty to the charge and received a three-year prison sentence, with an alternative option of paying a N150,000 fine. Additionally, he was ordered to forfeit his iPhone 14 Pro Max phone to the Federal Government.
