Akpabio Unveils Senate Leadership Positions: Bamidele as Senate Leader, Ndume as Chief Whip, Umahi as Deputy Leader, Ashiru as Deputy Whip

Abuja: Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has revealed that Senator Opeyemi Bamidele from APC, representing Ekiti Central, will assume the role of Senate Majority Leader. Additionally, former Senate Leader Senator Ali Ndume, APC, from Borno South, has been appointed as the Senate Chief Whip.

Akpabio Leads Senate Session: Moves for Adoption of Proceedings, Announces APC’s Anointed Candidates

Senator Godswill Akpabio entered the esteemed Chamber at 11:18 am, proceeding to offer a prayer at 11:20 am. He then requested Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, APC, representing Abia North, to propose the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings from June 14th. Senator Ezenwa, representing Imo East, seconded the motion.

Recalling the success of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June elections, all four candidates nominated by the party for Senate and House of Representatives leadership emerged victorious. These candidates include Senate President Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

While Barau and Kalu secured their positions without opposition, Akpabio faced a tough battle but emerged triumphant. Abbas, in the House of Representatives, achieved a landslide victory over his two opponents.

In the Senate, where all 109 senators participated, Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State and former Senate Minority Leader, received 63 votes, surpassing former governor of Zamfara State Senator Abdulaziz Yari (APC, Zamfara West), who garnered 46 votes.

In the House of Representatives, Abass experienced smooth sailing as 353 out of the 359 inaugurated lawmakers voted in his favor. His challengers, Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji, received three votes each.

Further details will be provided later.
