The Lagos State Government has extended its heartfelt commendation to CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, the regional subsidiary of CASIO Computer Co. Ltd, for its significant contributions to the development of education in the state.
The government’s recognition is a result of CASIO’s successful implementation of the CASIO Model School Project, a pioneering study carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Education. The project involved six secondary schools and two distinct groups of students – an experimental group and a control group.
According to a statement from the company’s media consultant in Nigeria, the findings from the Model School Project underscored the pivotal role of scientific calculators in mathematics education. The incorporation of these tools into mathematics lessons led to a notable reduction in computational errors and a substantial increase in conceptual understanding among students. As a result, their procedural fluency in mathematics improved significantly.
Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, expressed her satisfaction with the fruitful collaboration between the state and CASIO. She highlighted that the WAEC (West African Examinations Council) results witnessed a remarkable three-fold increase during the project’s period. She attributed this achievement, in part, to the high-quality training the teachers received through the company. The training not only focused on using calculators but also emphasized creating engaging classroom environments.
In addition to the Model School Project’s success, CASIO received further accolades for establishing the CASIO Lab. This cutting-edge Mathematics and Science Training Centre is fully equipped with cameras, projectors, calculators, tablets, and computers. The CASIO Lab serves as both a training center for teachers and a resource hub for the Ministry of Education, facilitating live video sessions on various subjects for subsequent broadcasting to teachers and students.
The Lagos State Government looks forward to continuing its partnership with CASIO to foster continued advancements in education and empower the next generation of learners in the state.
