World Bank President Ajay Banga is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu during his three-day visit to the most populous African country, commencing on Wednesday. The World Bank made an official statement on Tuesday, revealing that Banga’s visit to Nigeria follows a two-day trip to Ethiopia.
Accompanying Ajay Banga on this visit will be his wife, Ritu. The World Bank described this visit as an essential part of a global tour focused on creating “a new playbook for the 78-year-old institution.”
During his time in Nigeria, Ajay Banga will concentrate on identifying opportunities to foster job creation for young people and women, addressing the country’s energy needs and exploring the potential for digitization. Notably, he will visit a World Bank-financed mini-grid power plant that provides solar energy to an entire community and a successful woman-owned business that has generated more than 1,500 service-sector jobs for young Nigerians.
Additionally, the World Bank plans to facilitate discussions with representatives from the private sector and civil society to enhance collaboration and development in Nigeria.
