Airline Passenger Apprehended for In-Flight Theft of N1 Million

A passenger onboard an Abuja-Port Harcourt flight P47192 on July 27 was caught stealing N1 million from another passenger’s bag. The incident was confirmed by the airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, in a statement released in Lagos.

According to reports, the suspect took advantage of the flight to pilfer the money, which was kept in a brown envelope. However, the rightful owner of the money noticed the theft, and with the assistance of the airline’s staff, apprehended the culprit.

Stanley Olisa explained that the suspect not only took the brown envelope but also stole a computer bag from another passenger’s overhead cabin. To evade suspicion, the thief stowed the computer bag in a different luggage compartment and moved to an empty seat at the rear of the aircraft.

Despite the crew’s announcement of a proper disembarkation sequence, the suspect was one of the first few passengers to disembark. This incident adds to the list of reported cases of in-flight theft involving different airlines operating in the country in recent times.

Suspect Apprehended with Stolen Money Onboard – Under Police Investigation

The airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, confirmed that the suspect involved in the in-flight theft was eventually caught, and the stolen money was recovered from him. Upon apprehension, authorities discovered the suspect in possession of various currencies in different denominations.

After the successful apprehension, the suspect was handed over to the security operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria for further action. Subsequently, he was transferred to the police for thorough investigations into the incident.

Surprisingly, the police later confirmed that the suspect had been released on bail, raising questions about the ongoing investigation and the handling of the case. The incident has sparked concerns about the security measures on board and the need for stringent actions against such criminal activities during air travel.
