The Presidential Election Tribunal has upheld the nomination of Vice President Kashim Shetima and dismissed the petition by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The Tribunal, presided over by Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, ruled that the APM’s petition lacked merit and competence, as it was based on a pre-election matter that should have been taken to a Federal High Court, not a Tribunal. Additionally, the Tribunal found the petition to be statute-barred and stated that the APM did not have the standing to institute the petition since their presidential candidate was not part of it. The APM had raised concerns about Shetima’s dual nominations for a Senatorial election and as a running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging violations of constitutional sections.
