“Legal Action Taken: ICPC Investigates Alleged Corruption by Unical VC and Daughter

Must read

In a startling development, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, S. M. Anyanwu, from S. M. Anyanwu & Co – Chieze Chambers, has submitted a formal complaint to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The petition calls for a comprehensive investigation into alleged corrupt practices and abuse of office involving the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (Unical), Professor Florence Obi, and her daughter, Ms. Queeneth Bankpang Agbe (formerly known as Ms. Queeneth Bankpang Samuel-Ibeawuchi).

The petition contends that Prof. Obi stands accused of not only diverting university funds for personal gain but also engaging in job racketeering. This accusation revolves around her purported employment of her daughter, Ms. Queeneth, in December 2021, with a backdated appointment to December 2019—an appointment that Prof. Obi’s predecessor disavowed any knowledge of.

In a particularly damning claim, Ms. Queeneth is alleged to have never worked a single day at the university despite drawing a salary. She has neither lectured nor supervised any students during her purported tenure at the institution.

Furthermore, Ms. Queeneth has allegedly invested in a property worth N44 million in Abuja, with a partial payment of N21 million already made.

These grave allegations have now been formally brought to the attention of the ICPC, underscoring the need for a thorough investigation into the conduct of both Professor Florence Obi and her daughter, Ms. Queeneth Bankpang Agbe.
