“Sowore Alleges Collusion Between Calls for Mohbad’s Death Investigation and Suspects”

By   Milcah  Tanimu

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed skepticism about the recent directive by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the demise of Nigerian singer, Mohbad.

As previously reported by Naija News, the State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, conveyed the government’s condolences to Mohbad’s family and fans. He also revealed that, in response to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s order, the Lagos State Police had initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the young artist’s passing. A 19-member police panel has been tasked with unraveling the mystery behind Mohbad’s death. The government has additionally called upon the investigative team to ensure the confidentiality and safety of potential witnesses who might provide crucial information or indicative evidence.

In response to these developments, Sowore took to his social media platform to insinuate that individuals advocating for an investigation into Mohbad’s death may have connections to the potential suspects in the case. He raised concerns about the compromised and monetized state of Nigerian police investigations over the years, contending that they have often led to the concealment of crimes rather than their resolution. Sowore also expressed doubt about the ability of the DSS or any other security agency to uncover the truth in Mohbad’s case when those calling for investigations might have affiliations with individuals involved in the matter.

Sowore stated: “No serious person, including government officials, would place any significant faith or credibility in a @PoliceNG ‘investigation’ into any matter, given the widespread corruption and compromise of investigative tools and personnel over the years. Even in such circumstances, it remains uncertain whether the DSS or any other security agency can unearth the truth behind a crime in Nigeria, especially when those demanding investigations may have ties to potential suspects in these cases.”
