Kano Tribunal Removes Governor Yusuf from Office, Declares APC’s Gawuna as the Winner

In a significant decision, the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has ousted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, proclaiming the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the March 18 election.

Governor Yusuf, who ran under the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) banner, had initially been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Despite Nasir Gawuna, his APC opponent, offering his congratulations, the party pursued legal action.

On Wednesday, the three-judge panel ruled to revoke the certificate of return given to Governor Yusuf by INEC and ordered a new certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.

The court invalidated 165,663 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total, categorizing them as invalid votes due to unstamped and unsigned ballot papers (165,663).
