DSS apprehends Ogun legislator and six additional individuals in connection with the Sagamu cult altercation

Reportedly, on Wednesday, Department of State Security Services (DSS) operatives apprehended Hon. Damilare Mohammed, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Sagamu Constituency I, along with six individuals suspected of being involved in a cult, at the lawmaker’s official residence in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Mohammed was allegedly harboring these six suspected cult members who were on the run and were believed to have played a role in the recent four-day series of clashes between rival cult groups in Sagamu, resulting in eight fatalities.

In a press release issued by the state government on Thursday morning, it was stated, “Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, representing Sagamu State Constituency (1), is alleged to have provided refuge to the fleeing cultists. Acting on a tip-off, a team of security operatives conducted a covert operation and arrested the suspects on the legislator’s premises.

“The individuals apprehended, as per sources, include Damilare Bello Mohammed, also known as DRE, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade. They are currently undergoing questioning by the Department of State Service (DSS).

“Sources have disclosed that numerous dangerous weapons, including firearms, were seized from the suspects. It should be noted that Hon. Bello was previously arrested by the DSS for allegedly orchestrating a violent protest that occurred in Sagamu in February of this year, in response to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) currency redesign policy. During the protest, enraged youths vandalized approximately 10 banks and other public infrastructure.”
