Prof, Umaru Shehu’s demise, a great loss to Nigeria’s medical sector-Pate

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, has said that the demise of Professor Emeritus Umar Shehu, CFR, today Monday, October 2, 2023, is a great loss to the Nigerian’s health sector.

Prof. Shehu until his death had contributed tirelessly to improve the nation’s public health.

In a statement issued today by SA Media to the Coordinating Minister if Health, Tashikalma Hallah, to mourn the death of the renowned Physician and Public Health expert, described Prof. Shehu as an invaluable asset who dedicated his⁰ scholarship and professional life to the advancement of the population health outcomes.

, Prof. Pate said, “Professor Umar Shehu was an inspiration to many generations of physicians and public health practitioners, whom he taught and mentored throughout his lifetime.’

The Minister recalled the leadership role late Professor Shehu played in the fight to eradicate smallpox and wild poliovirus in the country, a performance he said the country will always remember.

“‘Despite his advancing age, Prof Umaru Shehu was never tired of giving advice or travelling to engage on important issues of health.”

We have indeed lost today our elder medical statesman, a great scholar, and a fantastic human being, Prof emeritus Umaru Shehu. May Allah grant his soul aljannah firdaus Amin. We extend deepest condolences to his family, Prof. Pate said.
