A TikToker known as ‘Pretty Yoruba Girl’ has sparked controversy with her video requesting an iPhone 8 as a birthday gift from her parents. The 3-minute video, which went viral, featured the girl looking out of a car window while her father’s voice in the background reprimanded her for prioritizing an iPhone over her studies.

In the video, the father suggested that she might consider selling her body to obtain the iPhone, and he expressed his belief that girls with such phones are morally corrupt. He contrasted her desire for an iPhone with those pursuing a medical education, emphasizing that owning an iPhone should not be her focus before entering university.

The father also expressed concern about his daughter’s future and noted that her actions had brought them pain. The mother chimed in, expressing her surprise that a pastor’s child would make such a request.

The video has triggered various reactions on social media, with some criticizing the girl’s actions and others questioning the parents’ ability to provide her with the phone.

Popular Disc Jockey, Dj Switch, expressed her thoughts on the matter, noting the contradiction between the girl’s actions and her parents’ concerns. She highlighted that the girl was more interested in obtaining an iPhone than gaining admission to university.

Some social media users defended the parents, arguing that impressing parents can lead them to do anything for their children. Others questioned the appropriateness of rewarding a child who had failed academically with an iPhone 8, considering the financial sacrifices parents make for their education.

The controversy even led to humorous suggestions, with one user offering to give the girl an iPhone 6, jokingly adding, “If it’s not too small for her.”

In the midst of the debate, the issue serves as a reminder of the complexities and differences in parenting styles and generational values in today’s society.
