UNICEF Donates Basic Health Drugs to IDP’s Camps in Benue State

The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has donated drugs for basic health for onward distribution to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s camps in Benue State.

Presenting the items, UNICEF’s Health Specialist Doctor, Ifeyinwa Angayo, stated that the organization would continue to partner with the Benue State Government to address humanitarian crises in the state.

Continuing, Dr Angayo expressed hope that the drugs would address the health challenges the Internally Displaced Persons have been passing through in various camps.

Receiving the items, Commissioner of Health and Human services, Dr Yanmar Ortese, disclosed that provision of quality drugs is one of the key areas that the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia has accorded top priority to meet the health needs of Benue citizens.

Dr Ortese who described UNICEF as a worthy partner in providing humanitarian and development to children and mothers as well as provision of emergency relief response to disasters.

The Commissioner assured UNICEF of the government’s support and oversight functions to ensure drugs are effectively managed to reach the target beneficiaries, pointing out that the Federal and Benue State Governments are working with security operatives and other partners to ensure safe return of the IDPs to their ancestral homes.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Benue State Primary Healthcare Board, Mrs Ashi Wende who acknowledged the organization’s intervention in humanitarian issues, maintained that UNICEF is supporting 3 camps in order to provide healthcare delivery to the IDPs in the state.
