Osun State Takes a Firm Stand on Unregistered Tricycle Owners

By Daniel Edu

The Osun State Government is cracking down on unregistered tricycle owners in the state, warning that stringent measures will be taken against those who fail to comply with the law.

The government’s decision comes in response to reports linking some tricycle operators to criminal activities within the state. Henceforth, unregistered tricycles will not be permitted to operate, and individuals caught using unregistered tricycles will face traffic offense charges.

According to a statement from Mr. Yakubu Adejare, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, tricycle operators are urged to obtain essential documents such as hackney permits, roadworthiness certificates, and vehicle licenses before commencing their operations in the state.

Adejare’s statement, published in the bulletin of the State Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment and obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, emphasized, “A significant number of tricycle operators in Osun State have been observed operating without the necessary documentation. Such behavior will now be considered a traffic offense.

“All tricycle operators must ensure they possess the required documents before taking their vehicles onto the road. OTRAM and VIO officials will soon commence stop-and-search operations.

“Tricycles have been misused for unlawful activities by criminal elements, and any operator failing to obtain the necessary documentation will be seen as facilitating such activities.”
