Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria Urges Government Action Amidst Israeli-Hamas Conflict

By Daniel Edu

In a strong statement, the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has voiced deep concern over the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict. The organization called on the Nigerian government to reassess its relationship with Israel until the country adheres to International Law and respects the rights of Palestinians.

During a press conference in Abuja, SCSN President Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah condemned the recent actions of the United States, particularly its veto of a United Nations Resolution advocating for humanitarian pauses in the Gaza war to facilitate aid delivery. He criticized the international community’s failure to address the root cause of the conflict, attributing it to consistent unconditional support from the U.S. to the Zionist occupiers of Palestine.

The SCSN urged Nigeria to follow the lead of South Africa’s government and opposition party, both of which condemned Israel’s actions. They called on Nigeria to reclaim its African leadership position, advocating for the liberation of oppressed people not only in Palestine but also in places like Myanmar, Kashmir, China, and India.

Furthermore, the SCSN demanded that the Nigerian government swiftly review its relations with Israel until the latter respects International Law and Palestinian rights. They called on Muslims, Christians, and people of all faiths to offer special prayers for the Palestinians and all oppressed individuals worldwide.

The SCSN’s statement sheds light on the gravity of the conflict and emphasizes the need for international intervention and support for the affected Palestinian population.
