“Sokoto Governor Grants Freedom: 73 Inmates Pardoned, Released from Jail”

In line with the Powers Conferred on the Executive Governors by section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto (FCNA) has granted pardon to Seventy-Three (73) prison inmates serving various jail terms in Sokoto Correctional Custodial Centers.
The statement signed by Nasiru Muhammad Esq, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who serve as the chairman Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy said those granted pardon include Six (6) inmates whose life sentences were reduced to 25 years, while Sixty-Seven have been released unconditionally.
The kind gesture is in Commemoration of the 63rd year Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
