Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has vehemently refuted allegations of mocking Seun Kuti’s daughter. Seun accused AY of making insensitive jokes about his police altercation and prison ordeal, targeting his child.
In a recent Instagram Live session, Seun criticized AY, labeling him as unfunny and claiming he had bad breath. Seun also accused AY of domestic violence, asserting his own children would never respect him.
In response, AY posted a video on his social media, strongly denying the accusations. He highlighted his own 13-year struggle with infertility, emphasizing he would never mock a child or anyone. AY clarified that a skit he recorded in June, mentioning a dog named ‘Hilda,’ was unrelated to Seun Kuti’s child and was a response to a different incident involving people consuming dog meat in Akwa Ibom state.
AY explained that comedy often addresses current events and social issues, with people who have a good sense of humor understanding the context of such jokes. He also pointed out that Seun’s father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, used his music and remarks to criticize politicians, setting an example for comedians.
Directly addressing Seun, AY challenged the allegations, stating he had never met him in person to confirm claims about his breath. Despite Seun’s negative comments, AY remained steadfast, maintaining his composure amidst attempts to provoke him. #AYVsSeunKuti #ComedyNotInsults 🎤✊
