The Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, in Akwa Ibom has expressed dissatisfaction over the efforts of the Federal and Akwa Ibom State government in securing the release of intending corps members from Akwa Ibom kidnapped in Zamfara, on their way to Sokoto state for their orientation about three months ago.
In a statement in Uyo yesterday, the CLO called on government at all levels to expedite action on the release of the Corp members as well as improving the security architecture in the country to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens and foreign Nationals.
The statement endorsed by the state Chairman ,Vice Chairman and Assistant Secretary, Barr Godknows Njoku, Comrade Eridiong Obong and Comrade Idorenyin Sampson respectively decried the unimpressive efforts so far by the state government towards the release of the kidnapped Corp Members.
It maintained that government has the capacity and capability to ensure the release of the victims who where on a journey to serve their fatherland and called on them to do more inorder to save the victims and their families from physucal, psychological and emotional trauma.
“CLO expresses dissatisfaction with the unimpressive efforts so far by the state government and security agencies towards the release of the kidnapped victims.

“The CLO is of the view that government has the capacity and capability to ensure the release of the victims who where on a journey to serve their fatherland and we call on them to do more in order to save the victims and their families from physical, psychological and emotional trauma.

“CLO calls on government and security agencies to deploy the same strategy and process they used in securing the release of some of the victims to see to the release and freedom of the remaining victims, many of whom their families have contributed money to secure their release but without success.

“CLO  calls on the Federal Government to upgrade the security architecture of the country to arrest increasing insecurity and loss of confidence in the ability of the agencies to protect lives and properties of Nigerians and residents of Nigerian.” The statement said.

The orgarnisation frowned at the general state of insecurity in the country which include activities of Boko Haram, increasing banditry and kidnapping especially in the North and the activities of IPOB and organised hoodlums in the South East and other parts of the country.

“The state of affairs do not make for better reading especially for foreigners and will discourage foreign investors from investing and doing business in the country.” It concluded.
