Shettima Chairs NEC Meeting

By Milcah Tanimu

Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently leading the 137th session of the National Economic Council, taking place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This marks the fourth meeting during the Tinubu administration, with the last session held nearly two months ago on September 28. The focus of the discussions revolves around priority areas for the next three and a half years, emphasizing economic stability, welfare, and security.

During the opening address at the previous NEC meeting, titled ‘Planning for Stability: Our Agenda for Economic Growth in 2024,’ VP Shettima underscored the importance of cooperation and goodwill among governors and other NEC members in making crucial decisions to rescue Nigeria’s economy.

In attendance for this month’s session, likely the final one for 2023, are all governors, excluding representatives from Akwa Ibom, Kano, Lagos, Enugu, Osun, Borno, Nasarawa, and Adamawa States. Notably, Governor Godwin Obaseki and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu were absent, with the designated seat for their state left unoccupied after the meeting commenced.
