Lagos Government Implements Strict Measures: Crushes Over 1,500 Seized Okada in Traffic Law Crackdown

By Milcah Tanimu

In a decisive move to enforce traffic regulations, the Lagos State Government obliterated and seized more than 1,500 motorcycles, commonly known as “Okada,” due to violations of state traffic laws. The operation, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transportation, took place at the Crush Plant in the Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Wale Musa, supervised the exercise aimed at curbing illegal activities related to motorcycles. Osiyemi informed the media that the motorcycles, impounded over the past six months, were slated for destruction as part of the government’s zero-tolerance approach.

Expressing the government’s stance, Osiyemi called on Okada riders to explore alternative modes of transportation provided by the government. He mentioned plans to introduce additional First and Last Mile buses in the metropolis to enhance commuting options.

“I urge the riders to continue to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained. There is no going back because it’s government policy, and the government does not joke about its decisions,” asserted Osiyemi.

The move reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining order on the roads and underscores the importance of adhering to traffic regulations for the safety and well-being of all road users.
