Suspected ‘Yahoo Boy’ Causes Fatal Crash, Claiming Three Lives in Delta

Tragedy struck in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, as a suspected ‘yahoo boy’ was reportedly involved in a fatal auto crash that claimed the lives of a final year student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Jenepher Ike, a 14-year-old SS1 student from Odiagbo Secondary School, and an unidentified girl. The incident occurred on Sunday evening along the Polytechnic Road, Ogwashi-Uku.

Eyewitnesses detailed the horrifying event, stating that the suspect, driving a Lexus 350 salon car, collided with the three victims along the Polytechnic Road. The impact resulted in the immediate deaths of the final year student and the 14-year-old boy, while the third female victim was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.

The suspect, believed to be affiliated with the ‘yahoo boys’ community in Ogwashi-Uku, faced the wrath of onlookers who reportedly beat him and attempted to mob him before intervention from some individuals who handed him over to the police. The final year student, Jenepher, had recently completed her exams and was in the process of working on her project.

An eyewitness lamented the recurring accidents of this nature in December, particularly involving individuals associated with the ‘yahoo boys.’ The suspect is currently in police custody at the Ogwashi-Uku police station.

While the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Delta State Command, is yet to provide details, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the incident, stating that one death has been officially confirmed.
