In a heartbreaking incident, a 32-year-old female marketing employee of a bank in Ikorodu, Lagos State, identified as Amarachi Ugochukwu, took her own life by consuming an insecticide within the premises of the bank. The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday and has left colleagues and authorities stunned.
Ugochukwu, around 1 pm, entered the bank’s restroom and ingested the insecticide, unbeknownst to her coworkers. Concern arose when her phone kept ringing on her table, and she was nowhere to be found. Colleagues initiated a search, only to discover her lifeless body in the restroom, accompanied by the suicide note and the bottle of insecticide.
The suicide note revealed that Ugochukwu attributed her tragic decision to the challenging economic conditions, expressing frustration with various aspects of her life. She conveyed her apologies to her parents and family members, expressing the emotional and mental turmoil that had led to her heartbreaking choice.
The bank manager reported the incident to the police, providing details that Ugochukwu had locked herself in the restroom, leading to the tragic discovery when the door was eventually opened. A medical doctor confirmed her demise, and her body was subsequently deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy.
The Lagos State Police is actively investigating the incident, as the shocking suicide raises concerns about the emotional well-being of individuals facing personal and economic challenges.
